Thayer Jacket (Grainline Studio)
Get ready for fall weather with this lovely workwear-inspired jacket from Grainline Studio! The Thayer Jacket is fully lined with roomy patch pockets and beautiful design details accented with topstitching. The A-line shaping simplifies selecting your pattern size and grading between sizes (if needed) for your specific measurements.
This project is for the intermediate sewer who has some previous garment-making experience and is comfortable selecting a pattern size and/or drafting a pattern between sizes. Techniques include how to sew a "bagged" lining, how to set-in flat sleeves, when and where to trim seams to reduce bulk, and best practices for topstitching for a professional finish on all garment edges.
This Thayer Jacket class will include 2 sessions held 1 week apart to allow you ample time to work on your project. Prior to the first session, Pre-work is needed (i.e, get familiar with the pattern, select and prepare your fabrics, cut out your pattern pieces, apply interfacing) so we will be ready to start the exterior jacket shell in Session 1. Homework is planned for the week between the sessions to keep your "sew-jo" happening as you make progress on your jacket. Session 2 will cover the magic of "bagging a lining” and attaching the collar, as well as additional finishing tips to help you create a beautiful, professional-looking garment.
