Pietra Pants & Shorts (Closet Core)

Let’s have a pants party!  The Pietra Pants & Shorts offer the best of both worlds; a flat front, high-waisted silhouette that gives tailored look to the front, with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, they are so comfortable you’ll never want to take them off.  The Pietra Pants and Shorts also have cool angled front pockets, and the garment can be made with wide or tapered legs and long or cropped lengths.

Skills that will be covered in this class include optional bias tape finishing on raw edges, creating an elastic, basic hemming, and grading seams.  Also, top stitching, bartacks, stay-stitching, under-stitching and stich-in-the ditch sewing techniques.

Fabrics that work well for this pattern include linen, chambray, lightweight denim or twill. For a swishy, glamorous effect, use rayon challis, Tencel or silk.

* Note that heavy-weight wovens may create too much volume at the elastic waist in the back of the pant.
